Landscapes of my Homeland
Series of plein air sketches “The Village”
“Landscapes of my Homeland” is a series of plein air watercolors dedicated to the places of my childhood and the places where I have lived (Yelabuga, Novokuibyshevsk, St. Petersburg, Levashovo). This project places significant emphasis on wooden architecture and architectural traditions from the past. Additionally, I address the challenges of preservation, fragility, and the short lifespan of historical buildings. Therefore, this project represents not only an artistic endeavor but an effort to raise awareness about the critical issue of preserving cultural heritage. The paintings depict the charming and traditional architecture of rural Russia, as well as the serene landscapes of these regions, a sincere expression of gratitude and fondness for my homeland.
Most of the artwork was created on location, en plein air, or through the window of my residence, in an attempt to capture the essence and beauty of each day and the natural state of the scenery. Many of the pieces were produced during the pandemic while I had ample time to observe the surroundings outside my window. The project comprises 15 final works and over 50 sketches.
